Storrington Primary School

The first term at school is a really important one for both children and their parents and our Early Years staff do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition and create a strong parent/school partnership. As well as supporting emotional wellbeing, parents are interested to find out how they can support their child through the next steps of their learning,  this term we’ve run end of day sessions for parents on reading, writing, phonics and maths as well as inviting them to shared story sessions.

The care and commitment of our staff is reflected in this parent’s comments:“both of my children have taken their first steps from pre-school into the ‘big world’ of school at Storrington Primary.

The reception teachers have a very special way of helping the
children and parents with this transition, making them feel very comfortable and happy and us feel re-assured that they are in the best possible hands, which they are!

We are extremely happy and grateful that when being taught, our children are encouraged to learn at their own pace and this teaching is given with genuine love and care for them and their education”. We wish all our school and village community a happy 2019.

Thakeham Primary School

We’ve been very busy this term in the lead up to Christmas! Our Christmas Fair was a great success with lots of exciting stalls and activities. Some of these were organised and run by Elder Class and included glitter tattoos, decorating gingerbread men, pre-loved teddy stalls and the selling hot chocolate mixes we had made ourselves.

Helping and supporting this event was important for us and has earned us a credit towards our Community Award. We are so impressed that the fair raised over £1400 which will help towards buying a new sun canopy for our playground.

Reception and Year One and Two performed a stunning and fun nativity play. It was enjoyed staff, pupils and parents alike! Their wonderful singing, acting and dancing will always be a part of our Thakeham memories.

We have had a wonderful time singing carols both old and new. Our choir visited Sussex Downs Care Home and entertained the residents, warming hearts with their lovely voices! They were treated to sweets after their hard work! Our KS2 carol service at St Mary’s Church was extra special this year with Year 3/4 reciting ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ in its entirety!

Year 5/6 made us all smile with their monologues, Joyce Grenfell style! And as for the singing – Mrs Norton said our voices were so powerful they raised the roof off the church! Christmas lunch and parties have topped off a busy yet very special week. At the time of writing there is not long to go now, we’re all very excited!
