St Barnabas launches new ‘Sugar-free for St B’ fundraising campaign

Worthing hospice St Barnabas House is encouraging people to get healthy this January or February by giving up sugar.

The new ‘Sugar-free for St B’ campaign, launched for the New Year, asks supporters of the charity to give up sugar and raise sponsorship for the hospice. Wendy Bardsley, Community Fundraising Manager at St Barnabas House, said: “We are encouraging people to give up sugar and ask friends and family for sponsorship to raise money for St Barnabas House at the same time. “You could give up sweets, biscuits, sugar in your tea, or give up all three! Ask your friends to sponsor you and help us to provide vital hospice care.”

It costs over £6 million each year to pay for the cost of all the care services provided by St Barnabas House and only a small part of that is government funded, meaning the majority has to be raised through voluntary donations and fundraising.

Wendy added: “Just 21 percent of our costs are paid for via statutory funding, which means we depend on the generosity and support of our local community to help us raise the funds required to provide all of our care services. Sugar-free for St B is really easy to get involved in. All you have to do is download a sponsor form from our website and you can start your fundraising straight away.”
