Shakespeare in Italy is a new Hastings based charity with Judi Dench, Ian McKellen and Ralph Fiennes as patrons
The Shakespeare In Italy International Summer School has grown in reputation, since the programme was first established in 2014. This year’s course will be in Calabria at the toe of Italy – separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina. The warm climate, the beautiful colours of the sea, rocky coasts that alternate with sandy beaches, a landscape that is wild and mysterious, the strong and genuine flavours of local food and the vestiges of its ancient origins give Calabria its unique charm.
The school is open to anyone who is fluent in English over the age of 18. It gives participants a unique opportunity to bring the plays alive with top level Shakespearean actors and directors, who have a wealth of experience with companies such as the Royal Shakespeare Company, and on both television and film.
In addition to practical work on the plays, the cost for the summer school includes 14 nights B & B accommodation and four special dinners. Accommodation for the course will be in apartments at the recently refurbished town house, Palazzo Zimatore, two minutes from the main piazza, and at the nearby Casa Armonia, a period town house decorated with charm and flair. It features a private terrace for breakfast overlooking the sea, where dolphins can often be seen at play.
Prices start at €2250 per person sharing a room. Upgrades
available on request.
This years course takes place on May 19 — June 2, in Pizzo Calabro, Calabria, Italy. Find more info at www.shakespeareinitaly.eu
