Saxophonist Jess Gillam joins WSO in RAF centenary concert this April

The early years of flying are remembered in the comedy film Those Magnifcent Men in their Flying Machines whilst another Ron Goodwin score was for the famous 1964 film 633 Squadron. Walton’s memorable score for the climactic air battle sequence in The Battle of Britain is justly famous whilst They Flew Alone – score by William Alwyn – charts the life of Amy Johnson up to her death in 1941 as a member of the Air Transport Auxiliary. Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is etched in many memories as V for Victory and provides a dramatic climax to this celebration concert.

Many supporters will be thrilled that the dazzling talented young saxophonist Jess Gillam returns to play the Saxophone Concerto by legendary jazz saxophonist Barbara Thompson. Jess Gillam is appearing at the 2017 BBC Proms with the BBC Concert Orchestra and at the Welsh Proms in the Park with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
