Seventeen brilliant young artists from Billingshurst Primary School competed in this year’s BilliFest Family Fun Day & Christmas Fayre Poster Competition. The standard was so high that the judges awarded two prizes and four ‘special mentions’ in addition to the winner. Everyone received a small gift with the top three receiving gift tokens.

The winning picture is used for the main graphic on the BilliFest public poster and the cover page of the illustrated leaflet, which goes to 4,000 homes in the village.
Ken Johnson, Chair of the Billingshurst Community Partnership’s BilliFest Organizing Committee, said, “The illustrations from our local children were really excellent and were submitted by students from Reception up to Year 6. We are most grateful to the Head Teacher of Billingshurst Primary School and her staff, parents and to the children themselves”.
The annual fayre takes place in the heart of Billingshurst on Saturday 3rd December from 10am to 3pm.
The entries were judged by June and Patrick Perks, and Louise and Martin Spurrier, and all the works will be on display at BilliFest itself. The printed flyers are delivered to residential addresses across Billingshurst and handed out in the village. BilliFest’s Principal Sponsor this year is The Big Lottery. There are four Main Sponsors: Devine Homes, COCO’s Style, Lions, and The King’s Head; and three Supporting Sponsors: Riverdale Developments, Truffles, and Billingshurst Chamber of Commerce. BilliFest is organised by the Billingshurst Community Partnership. Ken Johnson said, “We are indebted to our generous sponsors. Thank you”.
BilliFest is the community’s major winter event and attracts over 1,500 people. Some 250 children visited Santa in his grotto and received their free present from him.
There will be non-stop music and entertainment throughout the day and Radio Weald, which is run by the Weald School students, will again be host. This year’s line-up to date includes the Bells of St. Mary’s Church at the 10 am opening, The Weald School Samba Band, Billingshurst Choral Society, Lifestyle Fitness, Billingshurst’s very own crooner – Rob Nicholl, and Punch & Judy. The running order is to be confirmed, details are also on the ‘BilliFest’ Facebook page.
The annual children’s ‘Find the Name of the Gnomes Competition’ will again be in full swing with great prices. It runs from 2nd-15th December. Entry forms are at the Billingshurst Public Library and, on the day, at Santa’s Grotto in Cubitt&West.
