Worthing Theatres is proud to have won the title of Best Theatre in the Muddy Stilettos Awards for Sussex, celebrating fantastic places, spaces and businesses across the county.

Muddy Stilettos – ‘The Urban Guide to the Countryside’ – is a series of blogazines written by experienced journalists that now operates across 18 counties in the South of England. The ethos is all about quality, curation and unearthing the cool businesses and events in each county.

Each year Muddy Stilettos hosts awards where the general public nominate and vote for their favourite independent businesses in a variety of categories in their county, from art galleries to yoga studios. In their latest highly anticipated awards, 135 businesses where shortlisted in Sussex with 27 different categories.

With over ten thousand voters taking part across two months, the results of the awards were announced on Friday 16th June and Worthing Theatres were the winners of the Best Theatre Award for Sussex, with Brighton’s Theatre Royal in second place and Chichester Festival Theatre in third place.

This follows on from the theatres earlier achievements in the year, when Worthing Theatres also won the Sunniest Leisure Sport and Tourism award hosted by Sunny Worthing.

Heather Mercer, Executive Member for Customer Services, Adur & Worthing Councils says “It’s brilliant to see the hard work of our entire staff at the theatres showing. Their vigorous efforts behind the scenes and customer facing to ensure we can create the best entertainment experience possible is exemplified by winning this award for best theatre – a huge thank you to everyone who voted and all of the staff and volunteers at the theatres.”

Debbie Ward, Editor for Muddy Stilettos Sussex, Says “We set up the Muddy Stilettos Awards to give local businesses, particularly those not covered by other competitions, a chance to shout about how brilliant they are. We are lucky enough to have several fantastic theatres in Sussex and with so much competition Worthing should be delighted to know they were the best-loved in this year’s public awards voting, no doubt helped by innovations like their very cool Summer of Circus.”
