An idyllic village in a tranquil country setting

When first encountering the delightful village of West Chiltington among the pretty wooded country lanes you feel transported back in time. The tiny village 'centre' with the post office/general store and Queens Head pub is charming.  Lilliputian terraces of pretty cottages line the narrow roads around the crossroads at the heart of the village.Oak Tree  in West Chiltington, West Sussex Few cars pass by in the week and on a windless day the peace and quiet offer welcome respite from everyday bustle. Villagers are friendly and a visit to the Post Office Stores takes fifteen minutes mostly spent in easy conversation with the shop owner.

The larger area of West Chiltington Common lies to the south of the village on the way to Storrington. Here you will find a butcher, post office/convenience store, garage, hairdresser and beautician.

West Chiltington Golf Club, West Chiltington, West SussexWest Chiltington boasts its own excellent Golf Club set in 200 acres of breathtaking parkland which is open to visitors as well as members.

The village church of St Mary's dates from the 12th century and outside are the 17th century village stocks and whipping post. There is also a small museum behind the church which is worth a visit.

In the lea of the South Downs the area is perfect for walking and riding and the meandering country lanes are perfect for gentle cycle rides with more challenging off-road routes readily available.

West Chiltington adjoins the pretty village of Thakeham which also has a lovely Church. To the West of West Chiltington lies Nutbourne another pretty little town with just one main street where you will find the Rising Sun which is a traditional country pub offering excellent food.
