Introducing West Chiltington

West Chiltington is one of Sussex’s larger villages, with a population of well over 3,000.  It rests just north of Storrington, and neighbours the village of Thakeham which lies to the southeast.

It is a tranquil, beautiful village with much to offer.

Key Landmarks of West Chiltington

The village is famed for its sporting success, and boasts an impressive number of teams in a variety of different sports. A successful cricket team, whose players hail from both West Chiltington and Thakeham, compete occasionally on the village’s recreation ground. The village also has a football team, a highly acclaimed lawn tennis association and a golf club.

In addition to its sporting expertise, the village performs musically; the local band formed in 1908 and has been playing in competitions since 1930 when it entered the Brighton Music Festival. At the time of writing, the band’s longest-serving member is Doug Golds, who joined in 1947 when he was just 12 years old!

Local winery, the Nyetimber Vineyard, has been producing world-renowned wine for many years. In 2009, it was awarded ‘World Champion of Sparkling Wines’ by a blind tasting panel and its first vintage was chosen for the Queen’s Golden Jubilee dinner in 2012. The vineyard offers tours and tastings – please check the Nyetimber website for details.
